MODERN RIVER

MODERN RIVER

Unknown length - Jul 28, 2008

This video continues to beg the question, can the sacred abound no matter where, no matter how drastic the condition?
(Of course, the answer is yes, but how fun would it be to give it away?)
I have conflicted feelings about how my city, Toronto, has treated the Don River. Yet, as Robert Adams points out, everything is fine just the way it is, and unfolding as it should. http://www.itisnotreal.com/
On the other hand in anxiety-land, as Beck sings on his latest album, Modern Guilt, "Don't know what I've done, but I feel ashamed."
I think the Don River is beautiful. It is kind of sad, but there's nothing wrong with melancholy. Varanasi must have the vibe it does because so many people, for so many centuries, have been drenching the place in devotion (bhakti) and achieving non-dual realization (jnana) there. And I could feel it, and that put me on the track, which showed me that it doesn't matter where I am, since there's nowhere to go.
Yet, as long as you're identifying with the mind-body mechanism (as Robert Adams points out again and again,) Toronto is not like Varanasi.
Therefore a visit to the Don River is nothing like a visit to the River Ganga.
(And neither exist.)
